Cinzia CaporaleTechnology Director at the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), where she is advisor to the President, convener of the Research Ethics and Bioethics Advisory Commission and in charge of the ‘research integrity, bioethics and law’ research programme at the CNR Institute for International Legal Studies. She represents CNR in several international non-governmental Organizations for these subjects. She is adjunct professor at the University of Rome Sapienza, and member of many committees: Italian National Bioethics Committee, National Commission for the Promotion of Italian Culture Abroad, the ethics committee of the National Institute for Infectious Diseases INMI Lazzaro Spallanzani, the ethics committee of the Umberto Veronesi Foundation for the Future of Science, the board of experts of COTEC-Foundation for Technological Innovation and the scientific committee of the Science Festival of Genoa. She has been member of many other institutional commissions including the Novel Food Commission for Risk Assessment (Italian Government) and the Italian Environmental Protection Agency-ANPA, and has collaborated as a bioethics expert with the European Commission. In 2003 she has been elected as Vice President of the Unesco’s Intergovernmental Bioethics Committee - IGBC and in 2005 as President of the IGBC. Under her presidency the “Universal Declaration on Bioethics and Human Rights” has been elaborated and adopted by acclamation. At Unesco she has been member of the World Commission on the Ethics of Scientific Knowledge and Technology- COMEST, and currently she is member of the Unesco Review Committee for the Global Ethics Observatory Database on Ethics Related Legislation and Guidelines - GEOBs, the United Nations world database for biolaw. She is Director of the Bioethics Observatory of the Luigi Einaudi Foundation in Rome and participates or has participated in many research projects funded by the EU´s Framework Programmes.
